Painting, Pt. A Zillion

July 26, 2010

We’ve been crazy busy at Chez M. painting and redecorating a bed/bath combo and as both are in a state of relative destruction.

Every surface within five miles looks like this.

I’ve been obsessively reading Apartment Therapy and while I find the veritable buffet of beautiful/funky/amazing rooms incredibly motivating, they also don’t explain just how much of a pain in the ass it is to paint. It sucks and honestly, I suck at it. Thankfully, Lindsay, like a paint-roller warrior, did most (if not all) of her room alone. The color we chose is a sort of dove-gray accented by a full wall of chalkboard painted bliss (that my mother is still adjusting to).

[BTW: Where do you sign up to get that job? I mean, I can think of names like Moonshine or Flamingo Bingo or Serendipity. Hell, most of them are just random words. I have a dictionary. Hook me up!]

I’m slightly OCD when in comes to decor so when we moved in, I made sure that the trio of connecting rooms would coordinate nicely and as my room was a slate-blue and Lin’s was a(n incredibly vibrant, blinding, retina-burning) lime green, the only color I thought would work to balance our rooms out was yellow.

I HATE yellow.

While my hatred of yellow really only applies to paint color, I was overjoyed to be able to finally repaint. Because the only thing I hate more than painting is yellow. We chose a pale blue-green and after two days of scraping paint off of my finger nails and ruining at least one shirt, the cooler color tones are rewarding.

The next project lined up involves wood and a hammer. Yes, we are building our own bookshelves.

Needless to say, I think I’ll be busy that day.

The blackboard is surprisingly ok. I think I will adjust nicely. I LOVE the new bathroom color. BTW, I did help Lindsay paint, so there!

She did help me paint, but it’s not that easy to paint a 9 (10?) ft room with a 5 foot helper. 🙂 but she really did help a lot. When I look at my walls I swear I can still see green.
Now, all that’s left to do is finish putting up new fixtures in the bathroom! And, um, cleaning my room.

I’d be happy to help with the sink fixtures. I bet we can figure it out. I need to remember to ask my parents how. I love the chalkboard wall. It’s so cute! I want a way to incorporate it in my room.
